Melinda & Tyler knew exactly where they wanted to get married. A place both the bride & the grooms mother are from, the final resting place of the brides grandparents, but most importantly a place where the brides parents met thirty two years ago the brides hometown of Janvier AB. Located 110Km south of Fort McMurray. So from her parents love story to the start of theirs it was the perfect place to say their vows.
With wedding guests bused in to the ceremony site and the groom & his grooms men flown in via helicopter the day couldn’t have went any smoother. Saying their vows on a platform the brides father had built with a back drop of the most stunning 300 acres that has been in the brides family for 60 years was truly so special! About twenty minutes after the ceremony it started to rain, with blessings from above, the bride and groom thought it was very fitting as thirty two years ago it rained on her parents wedding day as well. But that didn’t put a damper on anything. Under a big white tent guests where still able to enjoy the catered lunch and especially have a few more pieces of the two hundred pieces of bannock from the bannock bar that the brides mother made the day before the wedding.
After the rain stopped guests were bused back to Fort Mcmurray and the reception was held at Shell Place. Inside the venue was filled with every dance teachers dream… sparkle everywhere! Sequin tablecloths, candles everywhere, a Christmas tree filled with Christmas bulbs that guest could leave a message for the newlyweds. A 10 foot wedding cake and the most beautiful LOVE letters that sat in front of their head table built by their neighbour, and with a special dance tribute from the brides dance students the evening couldn’t have went any better.
Melinda & Tyler say their favourite memory of the day was being able to sign their marriage license next to the final resting place on the brides grandparents. Though they were not there in body, we truly felt that they where both standing right next to us supporting us in the start of this next chapter.
So much thought went into every detail of this wedding, each bringing even more meaning to the day. It was a pleasure to photograph. However, more than that, it was a pleasure to get to know these two. Their love for each other is clear. My favourite part of the day was listening to their friends and family describe them as a couple who allows each other to be individuals, and accepts each other for what they are. At the end of the day, that is what it’s all about and that’s what my heart loves to photograph.
Thank you, Melinda and Tyler for always being you, for sharing that with me, and allowing me to share it with others. Love always, Chrystal.
