A tropical wedding in the dead of a Canadian winter? Sign me up!
A perfect way to end an unforgettable year in weddings, a trip to a place I’ve never been with best group of people a girl could wish for. I was super excited to join Kyla and Kyle in Veradero, Cuba to shoot their wedding!
Kyla and Kyle lead a busy life with three kids; a super kind hearted 10 year old boy who was the most handsome junior groomsmen I’ve ever seen, a two year old busy little blond haired beauty, and the most cheerful four month old I’ve ever met and who looks just like his big brother! This family of five, along with about 20 of their closest friends and family, packed up and left the snow behind two weeks before Christmas.
A week before heading out, Kyla told me she hadn’t made the planning of the wedding a priority, since they were so busy with kids and home life. The beauty of a destination wedding is that you can do as much, or as little as you want, since the resort’s wedding planner does most of the actual coordinating! Although Kyla felt like she hadn’t done a lot of planning, the amount of personal details that went into the day blew me away. From the pearl barefoot sandals for herself and her girls, to the shotgun shell boutonnieres for the boys (Kyle loves to hunt…see if you can spot a little bit of camo in their photos!), and wardrobes perfectly coordinated with the décor of the wedding and the old glam style of Cuba; a perfect pop of colour for her maids, fedoras for the guys, and her dress, jewellery and that veil (SO in love with that veil!).
Good luck played a significant role during the planning, though. The guys tried on their suits for the first time while in Cuba (thankfully they fit!), and many of the other details arrived in the mail on the same week that we all left for our Cuban adventure. The biggest stroke of luck was finding her dress right here in Fort McMurray. She had planned to go dress shopping in Vancouver, and then she received an email from Timeless Bridal Boutique. They sent her a photo of the dress of her dreams, and she just had to go in to try it on. She must have told me at least a dozen times how much she loved her dress. It was absolutely stunning, and I had a great time walking around the resort with it on the day before the wedding snapping photos of it with the most amazing backdrop of ocean, palm trees, and sunny blue skies. And. It. Looked. Amazing. On. Her.
Unfortunately, there was also a stroke of bad luck. Kyla and Kyle’s little girl got sick just a couple of days after arriving, and was very sick during the wedding day. After some of visits from the doctor, they had no choice but to cut their two week vacation short and return to Canada. Luckily, Kyla and Kyle have amazing friends and family who helped them care for the children and to ease their stress, so that they could enjoy their day as much as possible. The main thing is that they are back, their little girl is well, they are husband and wife, and we have amazing photos of their day!
Completely un-posed, all them, I’m not even sure they were aware I was shooting. They’re both so cool, relaxed and absolutely beautiful. This one couldn’t possibly be any more “old Hollywood glam”.
Oopsie! There goes the veil!
