Thomas planned the whole thing. He would tell Erin that he had entered into a contest for a free photo session and won. Really, he was planning a proposal, and Thomas really wanted to pop the question at Birchwood Trails where they often walk their dog.
He timed it perfectly. I would send a “You Won!” email to him just in time for a planned trip to Calgary. This would give Erin an opportunity to shop for new clothes for the shoot. But, when he suggested the idea of spoiling herself with a manicure, Erin got a little suspicious. In the end, Thomas was able to make the save, and the plan for a surprise proposal was back on.
The only thing we hadn’t planned for was the snow. We didn’t expect the white stuff so early in October and Erin thought maybe the photo shoot wouldn’t go ahead that day, but Thomas was ready and nothing was going to stop him from making this happen.
We met at Birchwood Trails, I apologized for not being able to give them the Fall session that they had “won”, and moved along to get started, with Thomas sneaking the ring box into his back pocket as he grabbed treats for the dog.
The trails were full of gorgeous, fresh white snow. It could not have possibly been a prettier backdrop for such a special occasion! It was such an honour to witness and document this day for them, the first day in an exciting new journey!
