Camilla and Sam’s gorgeous outdoor wedding has definitely been a highlight of Summer 2019. The beautiful scenery and friendly people made this trip everything I thought it would be.
I was thrilled when Camilla contacted me about her Fort Chipewyan wedding. I had heard that it was gorgeous, and looked a lot like Newfoundland, and was incredibly excited to shoot a wedding a there.
The journey to Fort Chip started on a little plane that seats only 8 passengers. We flew north of Fort McMurray for one hour. When we landed I found myself in the middle of very familiar landscape of rugged rock and a very large body of water. I started envisioning the wedding photos immediately. Camilla met me at the airport and we took a drive through town. The more we drove, and the more we explored, the more I couldn’t wait to get started!
The wedding day started with rain (hello 2018 and 2019 weddings…every. single. Saturday). But it eventually cleared up and left the most beautiful sky over a gorgeous outdoor wedding ceremony site. A teepee overlooking a massive lake was the scene. This is where the town of Fort Chipewyan came to witness Camilla and Sam’s commitment to each other. They cheered as Camilla entered and cried as Sam cried. It was an amazing scene. One that I won’t soon forget.
Camilla and Sam, thank you so much for inviting me to join you in Fort Chip! It was a pleasure to spend time with you and your wedding party (so fun!). And, thanks so much to Sam’s dad for use of his van, and his thoughtfulness and generosity. He definitely made sure we were hydrated and fed at all times. Everyone was just so incredibly friendly and giving. We are so grateful for the experience.
